House almost ready

March 26, 2009 on 11:59 am | 2 Comments

Yep, we’ve been working hard on getting the house ready for photos and inspection. Von took off yesterday to get the kitchen and study ready, and we’ve had three lots of household rubbish collection, and the storage unit is almost full… and we’ve barely though about moving out so far. The place looks great, though. We gave away six bookcases to the salvos, threw away one desk (actually, it’s sitting in the carport with a sign “Free Desk”, but there’s another household rubbish guy coming tomorrow anyway) and still have enormous quantities of green waste to get rid of…
I’m taking tomorrow off work.
Also: DMM is running a roleplaying game tomorrow night, based on X-Files. I’m looking forward to it. He’s an excellent GM.

House moving preparations

We’ve signed with a real-estate agent, we’ve organised for DMM to come over and do some photography, we’ve gotten a storage unit and moved a whole bunch of boxes into it, and we’ve lined up a flat to move into.
Phew!
Our next-door neighbour did a google on “Shellshear” and found this weblog the other day. We chatted briefly this morning about the interesting public/private divide in modern culture, and also Invader Zim. Howdy, neighbour!

Puppies are warm

Warm and wriggly, to be exact. Met a very excited puppy on the road this morning, out and about and playing with the terrified drivers, exploring the tyres of the slowly moving cars. Von and I were the only ones to hop out and grab him, though. I dropped him off at one of the houses (they didn’t own him, but they said they’d keep an eye out for the owner), and wondered why some people stop and others don’t. Any of my friends would stop, I’m pretty sure.

Won the draft

I finished the MTG draft with a last game against Loki’s frightening gargoyle-based deck. Fortunately, I got a flying-blocking creature out fairly early, and managed to race him. Victory!

Dentist

I’m content, for the moment, to just post day to day events without much interesting commentary. Sadly, blog, Veronica is my muse now.
I had a perilous dental experience yesterday. I went to the dentist for my once-every-three-years checkup, and they detected a very big cavity about to get all uppity on my tooth nerve, so much so that he committed fillitude right there on the spot. I have a new filling. Next week I shall have more, as although I am now quite good about flossing, that habit only really started about two years ago.

Magic tournament

March 2, 2009 on 4:18 pm | 2 Comments

We did a magic tournament on Friday: Shards of Alara plus Conflux. I did pretty well by grabbing every pricey bomb I was passed. 6-1 record with one match to play.
I do enjoy the current three-colour format. There’s lots of tricky mana-fixing decisions to make, and the payoff is the ability to cast all kinds of monstrosities.
Also: at work, we’ve discovered the game “Cash ‘n Guns”, a game about mexican standoffs, which is really quite terrific.

Getting ready to move

March 2, 2009 on 4:13 pm | No Comments

We spent a few hours on Saturday looking at flats closer to work. It’s unfortunately not a good time to be looking: University is restarting soon, and there are many students looking in this area as well. There were about thirty to forty people at each of the open houses. Crikey. Meanwhile, things are going into boxes.
