That cool thing that I was talking about a little while ago is now up. Very happy with it.
In other Darths & Droids activity, I did another strip last weekend (number 86) and we have now illustrated up to Episode 95 and written up to Episode 106. The run of strips over the last few weeks have been building up to this, and I’m (if anything) even more proud of it than of yesterday’s strip. It sometimes feels like a very extended Film Forensics, and as such, has somewhat taken away from any progress on Film Forensics in a good while now. Oh well.

I did it properly for the first time this morning, and then to prove to myself it wasn’t a fluke, once more, and then to prove to Mr McLeish that it wasn’t a fluke, once more. When I say “properly”, I mean “without consulting an external source and following the magic algorithm they show for solving the last two or three corners”. The solution entirely consists of steps that I can understand. Hooray!

Veronica and I had an unusual experience at the movies on Sunday afternoon. We’d gone in for a session of the film “Into The Wild” at the Chauvel cinema and were watching the ads before the film, when a rather startling ad showed. Veronica was in it! And then the ad said “Veronica Luke, will you marry me?”. Fortunately, I just so happened to have a ring in my pocket, so I quickly seized the initiative and proposed to her, and she said yes, and we exited the cinema (to a big round of applause). Phew! You’ve really got to be prepared for this kind of thing nowadays.

Veronica wasn’t, though. :-)

And all of today, I’ve been in a haze of happiness. Hooray for the magic of cinema advertising! Hooray for the Chauvel cinema! Hooray for Veronica! (And yes, the “spending more time with Veronica” thing in the last post was a hint…)

I have a confession to make. Jade’s name is actually Veronica. The reason for this bit of deception is that until yesterday we worked together in the same team, and we wanted to be discreet (some workmates read this weblog). Yesterday was Veronica’s last day at our company, and we came out – ah, a good feeling! Of course, many people had guessed, and many more people hadn’t guessed but didn’t care (as is typical for engineers).

It was a fun bit of deception. We were very careful for the first six months, and over the last five months have been getting progressively more casual about it, going to the Macquarie Centre together, hanging around Chatswood together, etc.

But I will miss seeing her at work.

Jade convinced me to try a modification of my weird “no sweet things if over 85kg” diet – on Wednesday last week I added “and only fruit or fruit juice if between 84kg and 85kg.” The intention of this transition period is that I don’t suffer the big sugar low that usually occurs when I go over. And it works! At least, over the last few days I went from 85kg to 84kg, and today I can have sweet things. One of the other nice side-effects is that I’m having more fruit; mandarins are in season and quite yummy.
