Day off
April 20th 2006 -
I’m taking a day off work tomorrow. Evidently, a four-day week is too much at the moment. I intend to be very lazy with my day off, dammit.
Yep, still feeling a bit antisocial.

One question that is keeeelling me.
Why does Evan laugh at the end of the spit song that you put on my 2004 compilation? I have all kinds of images of what is going on, mostly 1950s style exaggerated instrument playing with things pointing to the sky, bulging eyes, leg jiggling and a bit of boogeying. Well, that would make me laugh. It finishes with ‘I’ll never believe I got that down in one take’. Did you put this version onto any albums?

Is it even Evan that sings? Sorry, I am a bad fan.

Heya CB,
That’s a People People song (that’s Ev’s proper band – it used to be called Crop Circles), rather than a Spit song – it’s called “Wasted on you”, and Evan laughs because it was a very silly take of the song – I think he sung the wrong lyrics at one point, and they keep going anyway. Just after that he says “I’m tired of singing now,” and starts playing the tamborine.
The line “They’ll never believe I got that down in one take” is, of course, light-hearted sarcasm. There’s another version of the song on the People People debut album “The Sounds of Now for Tomorrow”, which is a great album, in my opinion. I’ll try and get a copy to you. However, as good as the professional version of “Wasted on you” is – it’s still very loose – I have a soft spot for the sillier one that I gave to you.

Yep, I love it! I think any other version would be inferior, even without hearing them. It’s the personal touch. Would be interested to hear more. How is the new spit stuff going? Thanks for looking after Aodhagan’s Ma. She sounded absolutely delighted with the whole thing, as you can well imagine. She’s cool. We miss her.

I also much prefer the sillier one. Very beach party – boppy and lively, which I think much better suits the tune (if not especially the lyrics). But I am slowly coming around on the album version of most of the songs. But you should definitely send copies to all your relatives, Andrew.

Yes! Give the relatives more copies! We will spread the good news!

I’m quietly spreading as we speak (the news of The Peeps that is)… v. good and will, naturally, have to backtrack and compare version on new album to that on old…. fun! Am liking the Melanie Horsnell as well…..
