I bought a bow.
February 2nd 2006 -
So, well, this archery fad thing seems to be continuing along very happily, so I bought a bow. It’s very nice, and it ought to serve me for as long as I continue archery. At the moment, it’s set to a rather heavier pull than I’ve been using recently – 32lb rather than 26lb – so I’m going through the wobbly arms phase again. A similar thing happened early in December when I went from 20lb to 26lb.
I was finally prompted to buy the bow by the fact that I’ve been going twice a week whenever the place was open, and I’m enjoying it just as much as the first time, and whenever I’m not at archery I’m looking forward to the next time I am at archery. Now that I can go whenever I want, managing this anticipation is going to be tricky. I have to be careful not to overindulge and burn out. Twice a week ought to be fine.
Over the last two weekends, I’ve taken both Evan and Chris L. to archery, and they’ve both enjoyed it a lot as well – they both shot naturally well and got excellent scores on their first try. And both of them have sworn to continue with it in Brisbane and France, respectively. While I was shooting with them, I went back to the 20m targets for solidarity, and got my best ever scores – when I was with Ev, I shot a 54 several times, and then last weekend with Chris, I shot 59. That’s 5 bullseyes and one shot that was one off the centre, beating the living crap out of my previous best scores, and really making me wish I’d brought a camera (Chris witnessed it, though). That particular set of six was done very slowly and carefully, with thirty seconds between each shot, as I realised I was continuing to hit the bullseye.
And that was when I figured it was time to buy a bow.
Oh, and I particularly love the sports lingo on the receipt:
1 Samick Agulla-U Riser (that’s the handle bit of the bow)
W&W “Evolution 2″ Limbs (the end bits of the bow)
Cartel 2000 sight
Cartel Activa cavil style (I think it might be a little technical dongle that the arrow rests on, above the handle)
Neet N-TL-302 R/H Quiver, Black
Beiter Armguard
Beman570 PF23 Arrows
RX-105 Bow stand
Pro gold T/D bag
Cartel KL 28″ carbon stabiliser (The stabiliser is a big black stick that pokes out the front of the bow and makes it look silly)
Hoyt R/H super rest (Finger tab)
