Hair
January 6th 2006 -
Another unspeakably trivial reason to post: my hair is now at the point where, if I don’t move my head too quickly, I can keep it in a ponytail.
I felt very self-conscious the first time I wandered around like this, even with it just poking out the back of a baseball cap (because it still goes astray, and then drives me crazy). Mind you, I get self-conscious even when I wear new clothes, so this reaction is not unusual. Long hair is fun to fiddle with, maddening in high wind, and sheds in alarming quantities. At first, I thought the long-predicted hair-thinning was coming (my mother’s dad was near-bald at the age of 30) but then I realised it was just that, since the hair was so much longer, it was much more obvious when it came out. It also may have been the cause of my sick-day-inducing headache yesterday.

I had a shedding problem for a while – I did some research and realised that my using “head and shoulders” regularly when I no longer had dandruff was causing it. I changed to Kylies shampoo/conditioner and now I rarely see a single shed hair!

Try bobby pins. I’m sure they make those sorts of things for boys now. Perhaps they call them “Robbo pins” rather than ‘Bobby pins’, though.
Also, there are several brands of Blokey Hair Product – mousse, gel and the like.
There’s always Bryl cream.
Enough of that and your hair won’t be going anywhere. Your hats may turn transparent because of all the grease, but your hair won’t move.

Bobby pins, eh? I’ll see how I look in them. I’ve used hair fudge a bit (it even smells like fudge) but it requires rather a lot to hold this big mass of hair in place.
I’m not too worried about the shedding. I still have to use dandruff shampoo, it’s true, but I’ve seen how much hair Anna sheds and I’ve got a long way to go until I get to that much. And her hair isn’t going *anywhere*.
