It is a sad but irrefutable fact of all children’s lives that they must suffer the indignity of nicknames that occurred to their parents at some indeterminate point before their birth and stuck thereafter. I, for example, continue to this day to be ‘Joe’ to my mother, a name for which I have no explanation whatsoever.
Monkey could have it worse – my kid gets “Magoo”, which is going to become a real problem if he ever becomes interested in the history of animated entertainments.
Monkey is extremely tricky. We named her monkey because she was conceived in the year of the monkey, but as it turns out she was actually conceived in the year of the ox, or something. That’s how tricky a monkey she is.

We call ours M1 and M2 where M is for monster.
