Guitar practice
March 26th 2010 -
I really need to practice, as opposed to play, the guitar. It’s easy to imagine a stern guitar tutor over my shoulder, pointing out the flaws in my technique:
- I play too fast.
- I let notes ring too often (especially on open strings, especially on bass notes).
- I don’t use the metronome enough.
- I usually don’t repeat the segments I have trouble with.
- I don’t ensure my right hand is in the correct position.
- I don’t pay attention to which finger is playing which note, nor do I ensure that I alternate.
- I play vibrato too quickly and too often.
These are all fair comments. I’m still committed to doing a concert in June (or thereabouts) but if I haven’t corrected at least some of these faults by then, it’s not going to be a very good concert.
