New Life
March 13th 2007 -
I’ve finished a week of SVG working group hosting, and it was fun and went well,. “Fat Tony”, the new working group representative for my company, also attended the meetings, and was happily accepted by the group. He quickly picked up the aforementioned nickname, with which he was rather pleased.
And that’s it for me! No more late night teleconferences; no more overseas trips. I have passed the baton (literally – I made up a baton, decorated it with various bits of svg, and gave it to “Fat Tony” in a ceremony) and am moving on to different stuff at work. It was a little sad, in a way – certainly, the best thing about the working group is the people in it, and I’ve made some rather good friends along the way, with whom I hope to keep touch.
This is going to mean a definite change in lifestyle. The working group did take over my life to an extent – the thrice-weekly late night teleconferences and frequent travel (which lost me quite a few weekends to sitting on airplanes) meant that I never quite felt like I was away from work, and I can’t help feeling that quite a few of my projects suffered, particularly Film Forensics. Hopefully soon everything will have settled down and I can get back to something approaching my version of normality…

Hi Andrew,
I met you at a W3C meeting or two (I’m a friend of Dean’s) and have been following your blog with interest since. I just wanted to say it was nice meeting you and while I’m sorry we won’t be seeing you at upcoming meetings, to wish you good luck. best regards.

So where are the new FF’s already, fertheloveofgodmontresorthereareratscomingouthtewallsgetthemoffgethtemoffgethtemoff?!
I like the curious postmodern subtext on the default version of the FF Guestbook which- in my browser anyway- invites the reader to comment but doesn’t have comments enabled. ;)

Hello Amy! I remember you from the Technical Plenary, of course, what an amazing meeting! Were you at the Print Symposium? Anyway, good to hear from you! The people were definitely the best part about the group, and all you w3c people were quite lovely at the Tech Plenary – it all seemed like a big family. Very cool, it’s the kind of thing that’ll stay with me forever.
Good luck with everything, and if there’s ever a meeting in Sydney, I’ll probably drop in and say hi!

Heya Vlogmid,
Well, um, they’re coming. And the stupid default thing needs to be fixed. I’ve got a chunk of work to do, but my lifestyle is still mid-transit…
